Frontier DM50 Series Disc Mower.

In this video, we take a look at the DM5060 Disc Mower (US CA) from Frontier. It’s one of 3 models in the DM50 Series that also includes the DM5050, and the DM5070. These disc mowers use 5, 6, or 7 discs, depending on model, and offer cutting widths ranging from 6-feet, 6-inches (2 m) to 9-feet, 2-inches (2.8 m). They’re perfect for use with the John Deere 5100E (US CA) we’re using in this video.

These disc mowers offer several features worth noting. For example, the rope system transport latch makes moving from one field to another a breeze. From the cab of your tractor, just use the rope to release the latch and engage a selective control valve to raise the cutter bar to its vertical position. Then release the rope to lock the system for transport.

You can adjust the float on the cutter bar by adjusting the float spring tension to match crop conditions. Then secure the float spring in place with the stop lock.

The DM5050 and 5060 are both Category 1 iMatchTM and Category 2 Quick Coupler compatible. The DM5070 is Category 2 Quick Coupler compatible. With such easy hooking and unhooking, you can get started faster, and move quickly to other jobs.

When not in operation, you can store the disc mower using the parking stand and park arm feature. Simply lower the parking stand and move the park arm into park position before unhooking the mower. This transfers the mower’s weight to the cutter bar and keeps the hitch pins level, making it easier to hook up and go again.

All three models have a breakaway assembly as a standard feature in the event you strike an object in the field. If service is needed, disc blades and each shear hub assembly are easily removed. You can take out each oval-shaped disc by removing just 4 bolts. Then each shear hub assembly comes out by removing just 4 more bolts. You save time and money by not having to split the entire cutter bar to replace a sheared hub. And each knife can be flipped or replaced by removing a single bolt. That helps keep cut quality high and cost of operation low.

These disc mowers are just 3 of the nearly 600 Frontier implements and attachments that are available exclusively from your John Deere dealer.
