No matter the size of the operation, more and more producers today rely on in-cab GPS guidance technology to operate efficiently. And just as important, but not as easy to measure, is the real impact operator comfort can also have on productivity.
From spraying weeds to applying new seed and more, there’s more to it all than following a path with your tractor that’s straight and true. Real productivity today also means being able to monitor implement operation, as well as the rest of the world around you. That’s what delivers the total package of productivity producers large and small need today.
That’s why a system like John Deere’s AutoTrac Guidance can be such a valuable tool. Because it helps you achieve the accuracy, efficiency, and productivity you need in so many ways.
For purposes of demonstration in this video, we’re using a John Deere 5100R Utility Tractor (US CA), a Frontier GS1184 Ground Driven Overseeder (US CA), and integrated AutoTrac Guidance (US CA), a factory-installed option available on 5R Family tractors, and other John Deere equipment.
Simply put, AutoTrac uses GPS guidance technology to steer your tractor in a straight line in a field or pasture that you have mapped by driving it’s perimeter, and then programmed a work path into AutoTrac for the tractor to follow. Once the mapped area and work path have been established, AutoTrac can guide the tractor on the line created, while the overseeder we’re using does its job.
More than a straight line
While AutoTrac is guiding the tractor on its long march through a big field, eliminating gaps and overlaps, never veering right or left more than one degree, the operator is free to keep an eye on the overseeder operation, be fully engaged with the entire environment, work long hours, but never succumb to boredom, and avoid being worn out at the end of the day.
Accuracy. Efficiency. Reduced waste. Increased comfort. Improved productivity. And the energy to enjoy your family at the end of a long day. And that might be the most important return on investment of all.
If there’s anything you’re not quite sure how to do and think others might like to learn too, just email us at TipIdea@JohnDeere.com. If we can, we’ll produce that video and even give you a shout out for having and sharing your great idea.
If you’re looking for implements and other tools that help turn your tractor into the workhorse it was built to be, you’ll find them – and all kinds of advice on how to use them – every day at your John Deere dealer.
And lastly, always read the Operator’s Manual before operating any piece of equipment and follow all operating and safety instructions.
