If your PTO shaft isn't the right length, you could damage the implement's gearbox, the tractor PTO, or both.

Why shorten a PTO shaft?

PTO-driven implements get their power from a PTO shaft that connects your implement’s gearbox to the tractor’s PTO. The shaft that comes with your implement may need to be shortened to make sure it connects the implement to your particular tractor correctly. If this shaft isn’t the proper length, operating the implement could cause great harm to the tractor’s PTO, the implement’s gearbox, or both.

Shortening the PTO shaft is something we recommend you have done at your John Deere dealership if at all possible.
